Join the CCRC on November 10 for the 18th Annual Two Turkey Relay! Cost is only $3 for CCRC members, and $5 for non members. Registration begins at 9am in Riverside Park in Salida. Join the CCRC for our annual Christmas Mountain Run! Meet at the caboose by the F Street bridge in Salida at 5:30pm on Sunday, December 9 for a run of roughly 4 miles. We will run up to the top of “S” Mountain and back down again. Pace will be casual and runners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join us. Bring your headlamp, your best Christmas sweaters or other holiday themed attire, and a friend!
Chaffee County Cross Country is underway and it’s looking like a great season is shaping up for both the Salida and Buena Vista running teams! After a successful 4 day XC camp in Telluride, where Salida HS runners ran a bunch of miles in the San Juan mountains, they returned to participate in an early season scrimmage with Lake County. Check out the meet schedule for more to come this season and contact Sarah or the CCRC if you would like to volunteer at the Salida home meet on September 29!

The CCRC will host 3 races this fall – a citizen’s XC race, the Goblin Gallop, and the Two Turkey Relay. If you’re looking for fun, low cost, and low key running/racing opportunities in the next few months, keep reading! Events are open to everyone, so bring a friend, and come on out to race with us this fall! We could always use volunteers for any of these events as well. Saturday, September 29 – Citizen’s XC Race at the Salida HS XC Home Meet
Support Chaffee County high school running by racing in the citizen’s race in the morning, and then cheering on the local middle school and high school teams at the Salida home meet. The citizen’s race will take place on the high school 5k course. More information to come soon!
Wednesday, October 31 – Goblin Gallop at Longfellow Elementary School
The Goblin Gallop is a FREE one mile fun run that will take place on Halloween at Longfellow Elementary School in Salida. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend! Halloween costumes are definitely part of the fun of this race, as is the chance to catch the “goblin”. The Chaffee County Running Club and the Salida High School Cross Country will team up to organize this fun seasonal event. No need to pre-register – just show up after school with your signed waiver!
Saturday, November 10 – 19th Annual Two Turkey Relay at Riverside Park in Salida
The Two Turkey Relay is a mostly for fun, two person relay that was originated by the late Don Breece, a former, active member of the CCRC. Teams will be chosen by random drawing right before the race. The first team member runs a two mile road loop, then tags their partner, who will run the same loop. All runners who are capable of running continuously for two miles are encouraged to enter. Two minute handicaps are given to all females, anyone 13 or younger, or 60 or older. Cost is $3 for CCRC members or $5 for non members. Registration will take place beginning at 9am at Riverside Park in Salida, with teams being picked at 9:30am. We are also looking for volunteers to bake pies or other baked goods as prizes for this fun event!
Join the CCRC for our annual 4th of July Run! This year’s run will take place on the Alpine Tunnel/Continental Divide Trails out of St. Elmo and Hancock. There are 12 and 17 mile options, or runners may do an out and back of any distance. Meeting places for carpooling include the Marvin Park baseball fields in Salida at 7:30am, or at the Nathrop post office at 7:50ish am. Please bring some food and drinks to share for after the run!

The overall winners were both from Chaffee County. Men’s winner Nelson Jones ran a time of 25:41, while women’s winner Taryn Ceglowski ran a time of 29:36.
School’s out and it’s starting to feel like summer, which means it’s time to change the start time of the Sunday morning runs! Starting this coming Sunday (June 3) this group run will begin at 8am. Plan to meet at the F Street bridge/caboose in Salida for a trail run of roughly 1 hour. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend!
Join the CCRC and 7000 Feet Running Company for Hill/Speed workouts on Tuesday mornings! Meet at the red caboose by the F Street bridge at 7am, warmed up and ready to go. Speed workouts are helpful for runners of all abilities, as well as a great way to start the day – come out and join us!
Join the CCRC on Saturday, June 9 for the return of the Spiral Drive Run!
The Spiral Drive Run is a 4 mile dirt road race up to the top of Spiral Drive (Salida) and back down. This event is organized by the Chaffee County Running Club and is sponsored by 7000 Feet Running Company and Altra. Race begins at 9am and registration is limited to 100 people.

The CCRC currently offers two group run options. Anyone is welcome to join in on any of our group runs – just show up, ready to run!
Sunday mornings at 9am – Meet at the F Street bridge/caboose in Salida for a group trail run on the Arkansas Hills Trail System of roughly 1 hour.
Monday evenings at 6pm – Meet at 7000 Feet Running Company (140 West 1st Street, Salida) fora casual, social paced run of 3 – 5 miles. Free childcare is available!
