Crest Trail North starts at the Monarch Pass Parking lot on Hwy 50.
Cross the highway and west of the pass is the Continental Divide Trailhead. Start there and go north on the Continental Divide Trail. The trail meanders through the upper slopes of the Monarch Ski area before gaining the Great Divide Ridge. It goes through a series of old stone walls built by the Ute Indians. The purpose of the walls were to funnel elk through a specific place on the ridge where hunters could bring them down with their bows, arrows and spears.
The is an out and back trail and can go as far or as short as one wanted to run. The blue line on the map is approx. 7 miles long.
