Demo/Shakeout Run with Hoka on March 9

Interested in trying out some Hokas and also meeting up with some other runners before the Run Through Time?

There will be a Hoka One One demo and shakeout run at 7000 FEET Running Company on Friday, March 9 at 3pm – before packet pickup for the Run Through Time. This is open to anyone, not just racers. Just show up, ready to try some new shoes and to head out for a quick run!

Featured Running Area: Browns Canyon National Monument

Browns Canyon National Monument is located next to the Arkansas River, between Buena Vista and Salida. The trailhead shown here is located just past the Ruby Mountain Campground, which can be accessed from CR 301. This area is great for hiking or running most of the year. It’s a beautiful area, and easy to access for any type of car. Options include out and backs to suit your preferred distance, or the 11.5 mile Catkin Gulch loop. Dogs are allowed, under control of owners. Click here for a map and more trail descriptions.

2018 Run Through Time

The Run Through Time is 6 weeks away!  The marathon field is just under half way full, and the half marathon is 3/4 full.  Registration prices go up on February 1, so now is a great time to register!  If you’re not planning on running this year, we’re also looking for volunteers for this event.  Volunteering is a great way to spectate at the race while also giving back to the local running community.  For more information or to volunteer, please contact Kristy at rttsalida@gmail.com.  Thank you to Jon MacManus for the terrific poster design, and to all of this year’s sponsors (listed on the poster) for their support of this event.

New Year’s Day 5K Fun Run/Walk

Salida Recreation’s New Year’s Day 5k will take place at 10am on Monday, January 1. The Rec Department would like to encourage people to pre-register this year! Due to construction at the Salida Scout Hut, race start and finish will be at the Boathouse Cantina. Cost is $10.  This is a beginner friendly event, so if you’ve never participated in an organized walk/run event before, this is the perfect place to start. Moms and dads, strollers are welcome at this event and pet owners, your well behaved dogs are also welcome. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers and best costumes and there will be hot drinks, sparkling cider and snacks for everyone.

Two Turkey Relay Results

Two Turkey Relay results!  Thanks to everyone who came out and ran, and to Tom Sobal, Roger Miller, Jon MacManus, and Emily Walker with 7000 Feet Running Company for donating prizes.

Note: Race clock is started when the first group begins running. This year, that was with the group who had a 6 minute handicap. Therefore, for example, the actual time for a group with a zero handicap is 6 minutes faster than what is listed.  Click link below for results.

2017 Two Turkey Relay Results

Two Turkey Relay

The Two Turkey Relay is coming up next month!  This will be the 17th year of this event, which was originated by the late Don Breece, a former, active member of the CCRC. The Two Turkey Relay is a mostly for fun, two person relay. Teams will be chosen by random drawing right before the race. The first team member runs a two mile road loop, then tags their partner, who will run the same loop. All runners who are capable of running continuously for two miles are encouraged to enter. Two minute handicaps are given to all females, anyone 13 or younger, or 60 or older. Cost is $3 for CCRC members, $5 for non members, and in honor of Veterans Day, free for any US Military veterans or current service personnel.  Registration will take place beginning at 9am at Riverside Park, with teams being picked at 9:30am.  We are also looking for volunteers to bake pies or other baked goods as prizes for this fun event!  Please email info@chaffeerunning.org if you are willing to bake something for a prize.

The Chaffee County Running Club and the Salida High School Cross Country will team up to organize this fun seasonal event.
